Google announced a new feature for the Quick Share tool on Android, allowing easy file transfers to iPhone and iPad using QR codes, in a move aimed at improving compatibility between Android and iOS.
File Transfer via QR Code
The new feature works by generating a QR code that iPhone users can scan directly through the camera app, after which files can be accessed and downloaded easily, without the need for additional apps or complex settings.
A Practical Alternative to AirDrop
Furthermore, this method provides a simple solution for sharing files between the two operating systems, especially on devices that do not support AirDrop. Once the code is scanned, the files are securely uploaded to the cloud, then sent via a private download link.
File Protection and Security
Google confirmed that transferred files are protected with end-to-end encryption, and remain available for download for up to 24 hours only, with the download link prevented from being shared with other users to enhance privacy and security.
Support for Photos and Documents
On the other hand, photos can be saved directly inside the "Photos" app on iOS, while documents are stored in the "Files" app or the "Downloads" folder. Some files may also be sent in ZIP format when needed.
Launch Date
Google indicated that the feature will gradually reach all Android and iPhone users by the end of next June.
In the end, this step represents a new attempt by Google to make file sharing between Android and iPhone faster and easier, without relying on complex solutions or third-party apps.
