Upcoming Technical Cooperation Between Damascus and Cairo to Enhance the Digital Economy 2026

Syria's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is preparing to launch a new cooperation initiative with the Egyptian side, through organizing a technical forum that brings together Egyptian IT companies and their Syrian counterparts in the capital Damascus in the coming period, within an increasing orientation toward deepening regional partnerships in the field of digital transformation and the knowledge economy.

The announcement of this orientation came following an official meeting between Syrian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdul Salam Haykal and the President of the General Union of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, Ahmed Al-Wakil, where an agreement was reached on establishing the organizational foundations of the forum in coordination with the private sector in both countries.

A Platform for Dialogue and Technical Partnerships

The upcoming forum aims to open direct communication channels between IT and telecommunications companies, and explore opportunities for cooperation in implementing digital projects, exchanging technical expertise, and developing joint technical solutions that serve the needs of local and regional markets.

The event is expected to serve as a platform for showcasing successful experiences, and exploring partnership mechanisms in the fields of software, digital transformation, cloud services, and cybersecurity, in addition to AI applications and the Internet of Things.

Knowledge Transfer and Enhancing Local Capabilities

According to the Syrian Ministry of Communications' statement, the discussions covered ways to benefit from Egypt's advanced experience in the field of e-government, modernizing digital infrastructure, and improving the efficiency of public services through technical solutions.

The discussions also touched on supporting the development of human competencies, qualifying young talents, and enhancing the role of startups, contributing to building an integrated digital ecosystem capable of meeting the requirements of modern economic development.

Supporting Digital Exports and Investment

The cooperation is expected to open new horizons for developing digital exports, encouraging joint investments in technical industries, localizing electronic solutions, in addition to developing value-added services oriented toward the industrial, commercial, and services sectors.

This direction also aligns with regional efforts aimed at enhancing the digital economy, modernizing legislative frameworks, and stimulating innovation environments and technical entrepreneurship in the Arab region.

A Strategic Sector for Sustainable Growth

The IT sector is viewed as one of the main drivers of economic growth, as it provides opportunities to increase productivity, create quality job opportunities, and improve the competitiveness of national economies.

This step comes at a time when Syria is seeking to rebuild its digital infrastructure and benefit from successful regional experiences, while Egypt is considered an advanced model in developing telecommunications infrastructure, supporting the technical companies ecosystem, and transitioning toward digital services.

The Syrian-Egyptian forum is expected to contribute to consolidating bilateral cooperation, supporting the digital transformation path, and enhancing economic integration in a sector witnessing rapid developments at both the regional and international levels.
